Community Art Facilitation

I facilitate community arts projects for arts organisations and community groups where the participants shape the activities we do together.

If you have a project you’d like to get off the ground, please do let me know. Keep scrolling to see some of the projects I’ve been working on recently…

Generations of Pride, 2025

Generations of Pride was a project established by Macrobert Arts Centre in Stirling. I worked with participants of the Forth Valley Lavender Room group to create artworks and artist books around the theme of Pride and Queer experiences.

We explored:

  • Zine-making

  • Book binding techniques

  • Triptychs

  • Collage

  • Sewing and textiles

  • Drawing, painting and mark making

  • Printmaking

  • Creative writing and poetry

We started with lots of fun icebreaker art activities, then throughout the sessions we discussed contemporary Queer artists and artistic techniques. Each participant chose a visual medium to explore more deeply through their own personal project. We used zines as a method of planning our projects and together we created this collection of beautiful work which was displayed at Macrobert Arts Centre for Stirling Pride 2025.

We started with lots of fun icebreaker art activities, then throughout the sessions we discussed contemporary Queer artists and artistic techniques.

Then, we explored bookbinding techniques to create our own books in a range of styles.

We tried out making zines, traditional thread binding, and folded paper books, such as these ‘Blizzard Books’, by Hedi Kyle.

Then each participant chose a visual medium to explore more deeply through their own personal project. We used zines as a method of planning our projects and together we created this collection of beautiful work which was displayed at Macrobert Arts Centre for Stirling Pride in September 2025.

The final exhibition was a total success! We got some lovely comments from the wider community who had some to see it too.

“In the process of making this book, I have learned to love the parts of myself I have always hidden away…

to those who have given me the chance to learn… thank you”.

We had such a great time working together that I was asked to take on a board member role with the charity. More on this coming soon!

Hutchison Community Garden, 2024 - 25

I planned and facilitated climate-positive activities for children in my local community garden. I asked the local community for second-hand materials and recycling which could be repurposed, and I ran arts and crafts activities tailored to specific age groups which highlighted the importance of reusing and recycling along with learning about nature and biodiversity.

As always, my nephew and niece were my guinea pigs… helping me test out the suitability of the activities first (thanks guys!).

With the under 5’s, I ran activities about colours and the types of plants growing in the community garden, and we made animals out of cardboard using fallen leaves and sticks.

With the older age groups I ran workshops on making masks, animals, tealight-holders, dreamcatchers and other hanging decorations out of things we could find in the garden, and decorated them together. All of the events were free and the community came together to offer free hot food and drinks at this event too.

The whole team at the end of one of the open days… A great day had by all! Huge thanks to the other community garden members and the Edible Estates team.

Drama at Macrobert Arts Centre

I regularly work with Macrobert Arts Centre assisting with and leading on creative activities.

As Workshop Leader for the youth drama classes I run creative workshops for the Junior and Senior drama groups on confidence-building exercises and drama games. I give the young people initial prompts and ongoing support, and together we create scripts which turn into short performances for parents and carers at the end of each term. I give encouragement to help young people harness their creativity and turn it into shareable work complete with handmade props, costumes and sets.

I work closely with Daniel Livingston, Macrobert’s embedded Creative Activities Artist and assist him regularly in his work with young people. Here we are with our giant Stone Man puppet which I helped some of the young people make for their show ‘The Travelling Circus’ in 2025.
